Laser Eyelifting Surgery

Introduction

Laser eyelifting is one of the most effective facial rejuvenation procedures available.
With time, age and gravity, eyelids become droopy, producing a tired appearance.

Puffy bags develop below the lower eyelids adding to the tired look.

Surgical eyelifiting has been used for decades by surgeons. However prolonged recovery, bruising and swelling can be off putting for busy people and those with demanding careers.

The advent of laser eyelifting in the 1990’s has been a significant advance with shorter recovery, minimal swelling, bruising and discomfort. All procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, reducing the costs substantially.

How is Laser Eyelifting performed?

During Laser eyelifting, a carbon dioxide laser beam is used to remove excess skin and fat on the upper eyelid, to recreate the upper eyelid crease, and give the eyes a more alert appearance. Using the laser makes this removal bloodless, so the procedure can be performed more accurately.

The eye itself is protected with a laser eyeshield during the entire procedure.
The bags under the lower eyelid are removed though a small laser cut on the inside of the lower eyelid, without removing any skin.
If there is some loose or wrinkled skin on the lower eyelid, the skin is resurfaced with either laser or Plasma PSR to “shrink” the skin. This prevents “pulling down” of the lower eyelid or change to the eye shape.

Do I need to be hospitalised for Laser eyelifting?

No. laser eye lifting is performed on an outpatient basis. However you will not be able to drive home the same day, so someone will need to pick you up from the clinic.

Do I need an anaesthetic for Laser eyelifting?

It is not necessary to have a general anaesthetic. During the procedure you will be lightly sedated, so you are not aware and will not feel pain. Local anaesthetic is used to make the area numb.

How long does the procedure take?

Laser eyelifting takes about 1 ½ hours.

How much time off work will I need?

If you are having the upper eyelids lifted, you will have some small stitches in the skin, which are removed after 1 week. The lower eyelids do not require stitches so the recovery may be faster with fewer days off work.

How long will the benefits last?

The improvement with laser eye lifting can last for up to 10 years, but this does vary from person to person.

Is there any pain after Laser eyelifting procedure?

There is usually little or no pain after laser eyelifting.
Your eyes may feel dry and gritty for a few days.

What do I need to do after laser eyelifting?

After laser eyelifting, you will need to go home and rest.
You will need to sleep on 2-3 pillows at night.
You will need to avoid any vigorous activity, heavy lifting or bending for 1 week after the procedure.
You will be given antibiotic tablets, anti swelling tablets, and eye drops to use as per instructions.
